SUPPORTING YOUR CHILDREN AND SUPPORTING PARENTS (GUARDIANS) BY PROVIDING HELPFUL RESOURCES
Hello, I am Mrs. Brock and welcome to my website! This is my 24th year as a Special Education teacher for Iron Mountain Public Schools. I graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1995 with a Bachelor's degree in both Special Education and Elementary Education and a minor in psychology. I received my Master's degree in Elementary Education from Marygrove College in 2004. I will be completing my Educational Administration certificate in November of 2019. I am very excited to be here at North Elementary and at Iron Mountain High School. The establishment of like grade levels in buildings provides for unique opportunities. The focus as a Special Education teacher at the elementary level is to remediate students, fill in the gaps, and build foundational skills needed to help students be successful. The process of developing independent strategies, organizational skills, as well as, teaching students with learning challenges to advocate for themselves when help is needed becomes a priority. This helps to prepare students for 7th-12th grades, where more independence is expected. My hope is that my students leave North Elementary and 5th/6th grade with new skills, confidence, and the attitude that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. The focus of my website is to provide parents with a variety of resource links that will be helpful in many areas for you and your child. There can be very challenging days as a parent of a child that struggles in school, and hopefully these resources can provide some answers and strategies for you. Oh, and I won't forget to update on what we are learning each week, along with my weekly spelling lists for those students who have language arts with me (just in case the spelling list does not make its way home:) Thank you for your support, and ENJOY THE WEBSITE!!!!
